To earn PVE Gear, you should firstly run each of the normal level 80 dungeons at the least once, and accept any quests that other players share for each. The normal dungeons are Halls of Lightning, Utgarde Pinnacle, Oculus and Culling of Stratholme.

To get PVP Gear, you should first build up honor by running the different battlegrounds that are available. Spend the honor on the best PVP upgrades you can get from the PVP vendors.
The next step is to run the Wintergrasp Vault of Archavon dungeons to obtain PVP gear a step above the honor gear. Take part in arenas to earn arena points and improve your rating, granting you access to the best PVP gear in the game.
